Storytime Fairy Tales — Privacy Policy

1. The short version

Storytime Fairy Tales (published in Russian and Spanish under localized titles) is an iPhone app by Ivan Kniazev in which a parent reads a fairy tale aloud and the pictures come alive. The app has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Your voice is processed on your device and is never sent to us. We do not collect personal data.

2. Microphone and speech recognition

When you start reading a tale, the app uses the microphone to follow the text you read aloud. The audio is processed in real time, on your device, by a speech recognition model for your reading language (the model is downloaded once from Apple's App Store servers, see section 6):

  • Audio is not sent to us or to any third party.
  • Audio is not stored, unless you choose to save a reading recording (section 3).
  • You can deny or revoke microphone access in iOS Settings at any time; the tale can still be read by tapping the underlined words and turning pages by hand.

3. Reading recordings

The app can record a reading so that the child can listen to it later. This can be switched off in the For Parents section, which is protected by a parental gate. After a tale you are asked whether to keep the recording; if you decline, it is deleted at once.

  • A saved recording consists of the voice audio and the timing of page turns and animations.
  • Recordings are stored only in the app's storage on your device. We never receive them.
  • You can delete a recording in the app at any time; deleting the app deletes all recordings.

4. Purchases

Paid tales are sold through Apple's In-App Purchase. Apple processes the payment; we do not receive your name, email address or payment details. The app only learns from the App Store on your device whether a purchase is active. Apple's handling of your data is described in Apple's Privacy Policy.

5. Data kept on your device

The app keeps the following on your device only, and does not transmit it:

  • settings such as the interface language and the recording switch;
  • whether a purchase is active;
  • saved reading recordings.

6. Network connections

Once the speech recognition model for your language is on the device, tales work offline. The app goes online only to talk to the App Store about purchases and to download the speech recognition model for the language you read in. Models are hosted by Apple on the App Store's servers and delivered by iOS. Like any download, such a request carries technical information (for example, your IP address) that Apple needs to deliver the file; Apple handles it under its own Privacy Policy. We do not receive it.

7. Children

The app is made for parents and other adults to read with children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (COPPA) or under 16 (GDPR). Purchases, settings and anything that leads outside the app are behind a parental gate.

8. Your rights

Because we do not collect or store personal data on our side, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete: everything the app keeps is on your device and under your control. You can still write to us with any question or request.

9. Changes to this policy

If the app's handling of data changes, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches the app.
